Sierra Club meeting to discuss energy efficiency and renewable energy
2009-12-30 · By Editor
On January 6, 2010, the Long Beach Group of the Sierra Club will host special guest speakers to discuss how renters and owners can improve their energy efficiency and reduce their energy bills at their home or business.
Howard Choy, Director of Los Angeles County’s newly formed Office of Sustainability, will discuss AB 811, a special funding mechanism that allows property owners to finance renewable energy generation and energy efficiency improvements with low-interest loans repaid through their property tax bills.
Norma and Alan Williamson will also give a presentation on how to give your home a “Zero Energy Home Makeover.” Alan is a solar energy installation supervisor for GRID Alternatives and Norma teaches high school and has her masters degree in education. Together they will show how any home — whether you rent or own — can become a zero energy home and generate more energy than it consumes.
The Long Beach Group of the Sierra Club meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Environmental Services Bureau, 2929 East Willow Street, near Temple in Long Beach. The public is welcome. Sierra Club membership forms will be available for anyone interested in joining the group’s outdoor activities and environmental education.
