Green LB Presents: 3rd & Elm Holiday Craft-A-RoundGreen Long Beach is proud to present the first annual 3rd and Elm Holiday Craft-A-Round hosted in collaboration with the local businesses on 3rd street and Elm Street in Long Beach. This free event will be held Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 11am-4pm, and is open to the public to celebrate a more sustainable holiday by building community, shopping local, and creatively gifting.

Themed around a vintage, 1800’s holiday vibe, attendees will be welcomed into the Holiday-Craft-A-Round with a decorated entrance and live art and music, complete with a photo booth and face painting. Local organizations and artists will be offering workshops and holiday crafting ideas for adults and children to do throughout the event. Free materials will be provided to encourage people to use up-cycled products, such as books donated by the City’s Office of Sustainability through the Art Exchange from Acres of Books as well as materials from the Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse.

Local businesses and artists will be showcasing their work along the 3rd and Elm loop. Businesses participating include Shortnin’ Bread, Durty Mick Records, The Hallway Spectacle, Primal Flower, Downtown Darling, JJ Rowe, Long Beach Depot for Creative Reuse, Bow-Tiki Boutique, and V.S. Tailored Cutz.

The purpose of this event is to encourage the public to be creative with their holiday gift giving, and to inspire the community to see the beauty in materials that could normally be considered trash. The goal of the event is not to sell things, but to bring the community together to create one-of-a- kind gifts this holiday season without spending a lot of money. Local businesses participating in this event hope to connect to the community and promote a message of sustainable, local living.
