The 1st Annual 4th Street in Motion festival is rolling into town on May 9. The wheels are turning on 4th Street, aspiring to an increasingly green lifestyle and this festival is no exception, showcasing alternative transportation and bicycle-related activities.
The 4th Street corridor, between Junipero and Cherry Avenues, will be buzzing with activity, including a bike-themed film festival and independent film competition at the newly renovated Art Theatre, plus a music stage featuring local/national bands & deejays, performing artists, food and retail merchants, a wine and beer garden, and much more!
As part of the 4th Street in Motion Festival, the Luther Burbank School will host a full schedule of kids’ activities and exhibits, including safe cycling workshops, do-it-yourself bike repair, and a host of other educational and fun activities for the whole family.
The Cyclone Coasters, vintage bike enthusiasts, will be on hand displaying their classic bikes, and the Long Beach Roller Derby team—The Retro Rollers—will entertaining the crowds by doing what they do best: roller skating! And since it’s Mother’s Day, there will also be special treats for the mothers in attendance.
Luther Burbank School’s “Garden of the Mind” project, which funds school projects based on celebrated botanist Luther Burbank’s green philosophy, will be the major recipient of event donations and proceeds of the 4th Street In Motion Festival. Luther Burbank’s “Garden of the Mind” focuses on innovating education and community through the permanence of heritage, the wisdom of art, and the science of sustainability.
