Long Beach Meditation Offers Meditation Course For Beginner’s

Long Beach Meditation, one of the oldest meditation centers in Southern California, is providing the public with an opportunity to learn meditation from experienced teachers and cultivate self-awareness and concentration.
Modern science continues to prove what many have known for centuries – that meditation is a beneficial tool for reducing stress and anxiety, decreasing tension-related pain, and improving overall brain function. Even more, doctors are discovering that people who meditate regularly have lower cases of hypertension and increased levels of serotonin, resulting in improved mood and behavior.
The six-week Beginner’s Course, led by our founder and guiding teacher Dr. Victor Byrd, commences on Saturday, February 6th from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. The Course will provide students with the broad fundamentals of meditation and mindfulness, our core practice. The first class will begin with some basic concentration objects and ask each student to choose one to work with and practice for a few minutes each day, keeping a journal of their experience. With each successive class, we will look at different styles of meditation; by the end of the course, our goal is for each student to settle on the style that works best for them.
In addition to meditating and studying Eastern wisdom traditions for nearly forty years, Dr. Victor Byrd has been a practicing psychotherapist in Long Beach for the past twenty-five. His book, The Bare Bones of the Buddha’s Teaching, is available at Apostrophe Books on Second St. and on Amazon. Cesar Seas, a ten-year daily practitioner, will assist in teaching the course and join Dr. Byrd in guiding each student through their individual process.
Founded in 1993, Long Beach Meditation has grown into one of the most active meditation centers in Southern California by providing courses and weekly “sits” to people from all faith traditions. As we are a non-sectarian organization, our programs are offered to anyone interested in achieving daily mental well-being. Regular attendees come from every corner of Long Beach and the surrounding communities in Los Angeles and Orange County.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Long Beach Meditation never turns away anyone due to lack of funds thanks to the generosity of its sustaining members and donations from local businesses and individuals who support our mission to offer a place of silent refuge in the heart of Long Beach.
