The public is invited to join Mayor Robert Garcia, Councilmember Dee Andrews and the Departments of Parks, Recreation and Marine and Public Works at the groundbreaking ceremony for the “Locust Tot Lot” located at 2331 Locust Avenue on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 9:30 am.

“I am always excited to see additional recreational open space developed in Long Beach,” said Mayor Garcia. “The residents in the neighborhood will have a new much-needed place to play with their children and enjoy the outdoors with their neighbors.”

The Locust Tot Lot will feature a colorful play structure for 2- to 5-year-olds, with climbing and exploratory features and a slide. The playground will also feature a set of swings, safety surfacing, and a series of interactive play panels. A seating area will include two benches and two picnic tables connected by an ADA accessible walkway, as well as a bike rack, trees and mulch.

“The Locust Tot Lot will be the latest park area developed in Central Long Beach, and one that I have been working on for a while for our children to have a safe place to play,” said Councilmember Andrews. “When it is completed in the fall, we will have opened or renovated more than 26 acres of parks and open space since I have been in office.

The playground design will be unveiled at the groundbreaking, and the community will see a preview of the equipment. The location for the Tot Lot is a 4,050-square-fot site that was formerly a vacant lot.
