Recreation Fitness, Long Beach’s own “recess-based” fitness company, is bringing a family-friendly scavenger hunt to the Bixby Knolls community this April, and they want you to join the adventure.

The Bixby Knolls Scavenger Hunt will take place on Sunday, April 3, at 11 am, starting at the new Recreation Fitness studio at 4234 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Teams/families of 2-5 people will solve clues and complete challenges at various locations throughout Bixby Knolls, then race to the finish line. For the competitive-at-heart, this fun foot race is a test of mental skills and speed; for the more leisure-minded participants, it’s a fun way to explore their neighborhood and learn more about the history of this community.

“We are so happy to be a part of this historical neighborhood, and this event will give our neighbors and community members the chance to experience our playful approach to fitness while exploring and having fun.” said Emily Duval Ledger, Recreation Fitness’s founder and lead trainer. “The scavenger hunt clues – a total labor of love in collaboration with the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association and the Long Beach Historical Society – really highlight some great people and places right in our own backyard.”

The Recreation Fitness team has hosted other fun outdoor events such as the popular Summer Games and Winter Games events in Long Beach – their goofy field versions of the Olympic Games. Before landing their permanent new home on the vibrant 4200 block of Atlantic Avenue, the Games were held in Whaley Park near the California State University campus. Says Duval Ledger ” there is such a great sense of community in this neighborhood, we are delighted at the reception and grand welcome we have received since opening.”

The event is one day only and reservations are suggested, arrive early. Cost is $15.00 per “hunter” (through March 17, $18.00 each after) and the fee includes an official event t-shirt printed by Bixby Knolls’ own Red Eye Media. Email info@recreationfitness.com or call 562-243-2221 to reserve your spot. Additional information and registration can be found at: http://recreationfitness.com/scavenger-hunt/

About Recreation Fitness

Founded in 2008 by Emily Duval Ledger, Recreation Fitness has become synonymous with recreation-based fitness in Long Beach. With all-level, “recess-based” outdoor fit camp classes and a playful, innovative training style, the diverse team of certified trainers, dancers, yoga teachers, athletes and nutrition coaches has helped countless clients reach their weight loss, sports performance, injury rehab and prenatal/postpartum fitness goals. The team was chosen in 2010 to be off-camera trainers for the ABC-TV reality show The Revolution, and their clients were among the show’s most successful participants. But their passion is for the people of Long Beach, which promoted their storefront studio opening in Bixby Knolls in October of 2015.
