Long Beach City College awarded $1.1 million in scholarships Wednesday, June 8. More than 700 students were awarded during LBCC’s annual scholarship reception attended by scholarship recipients, family, friends and donors.

“I am proud that Long Beach City College once again awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to deserving students,” said LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley. “These scholarships will assist students in achieving their academic goals.”

The Long Beach City College Foundation raises the scholarship funds from individual donors, community organizations, foundations, corporations and LBCC staff. The Rotary Club of Long Beach was the top donor, awarding nearly 120 scholarships totaling more than $100,000.

The largest scholarships were awarded to student Shannon Tubbs, who received a $5,000 scholarship from the Shaun Lumachi Memorial Fund, and Samuel Vargas, who received $3,100 from the Ruth & Noble Hines Scholarship.
