On Saturday May 11 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) will host the 5th Annual BikeFest at the official finish line of the Tour of Long Beach, a Miller Children’s Hospital fundraiser. This free family-friendly event will honor Long Beach’s rich bicycling history and the city’s famous vintage collecting culture with a vintage bike exhibit, bike + fashion show, bike contest and live swing bands.
“Downtown Long Beach has many bike-friendly features including dedicated bike lanes and a commuter bike station,” shared Michelle Manire, Chair of the DLBA Marketing and Special Events Committee. “BikeFest is a great opportunity to celebrate that element of Long Beach culture.”
In fact, Long Beach is currently ranked by Bicycling Magazine as one of the top 20 most bike friendly cities in the nation, and has “Silver” status with the League of American Bicyclists. This free event, located on the green at The Pike at Rainbow Harbor, celebrates the bike-friendliness of the City with a fun biking festival for Tour riders and members of the community alike.
“We are pleased to again partner with Miller Children’s Hospital on the Tour of Long Beach to raise funds for an important cause while providing a fun, family-friendly event for the community,” added DLBA President & CEO Kraig Kojian. “We look forward to residents from across Long Beach and neighboring communities to biking to our beautiful waterfront to share in this worthwhile event and celebration.”
BikeFest will also include the Beachwood and Friends Craft Beer Garden, favorite foods from downtown Long Beach restaurants, a bike shop vendor village, free bike valet with ample bike parking, and special activities for children including a rock wall, bicycle safety classes, face painting and live entertainment.
