2012-08-15 · By Editor
Long Beach residents of the Fifth District Council District are invited to get their cell phones and cameras ready to photograph what makes them love the neighborhood in which they live.
“It’s part of our annual Good Neighbor Festival and Picnic,” says Schipske who started the event 6 years ago. “We want residents to capture in a photograph all the great things that make the 5th District a wonderful place to live and to work and to tell us what they like best about their neighborhood.”
5th District residents can email their photograph to Councilwoman Schipske at D5PhotoContest@longbeach.gov. The photographs will be printed out and displayed at the 6th annual Good Neighbor Festival and Family Picnic on Saturday, September 29th, from 10 am to 3 pm at Good Neighbor Park, located at 2800 N. Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, 90815. Photographs will be accepted through September 14th. Submissions should include the name, address and email of the resident as well as a brief description of the photograph.
Each resident sending a photograph will receive an “opportunity ticket” for a drawing to receive a “5th District Goodie Basket.” One entry per person. The photo contest is sponsored by the Sam’s Club at the Long Beach Towne Center.
“We are hoping to put all of the photographs into a book that residents can purchase and the proceeds donated to Partners of Parks for use in maintaining our parks,” Schipske explains.
Along with the “What I Like Best About My Neighborhood” photograph challenge, Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske is inviting residents to nominate individuals and/or organizations for the annual Good Neighbor Awards. The nomination process honors youth, adults and organizations who have been “good neighbors” in the 5th Council District.
To submit a nomination for a Good Neighbor Award, go online and complete a nomination form. You can also send your contact information, along with the contact information of your nominee, to email@example.com.
As well, residents can mail their nomination to Councilwoman Schipske at 333 W. Ocean Blvd. 14th Floor, Long Beach, CA 90802. Be sure to include reasons as to why your nominee deserves to be acknowledged as a “good neighbor.”
The Good Neighbor Festival will feature The Elm Street Band, a watermelon-eating contest and a variety of booths that include Fifth District neighborhood organizations, non-profit organizations, and city departments. A number of activities and games for families and children will be provided.
