6 Weeks of Summer Camp Keeps Kids Engaged
2014-06-26 · By Editor
Don’t let your kids fall in the rut of playing video games or chatting with friends online all summer. Instead, sign them up for a week… or six weeks of summer camp! Los Altos United Methodist Church in Long Beach is offering day camp for Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Week 1: July 14-18: Where the Wild Things Are
Whales! Lions! Animals all around! This week is packed with stories about our furry friends and foes. If you like messy games and going on outdoor adventures, you will love this week. Campers will also have the opportunity to learn the basics of mural painting and put their artistic skills in to practice.
Week 2: July 21-25: Walk Like an Egyptian
Take a step back in time—to ancient Egypt. We’ll learn about two guys—a dreamer and a prince—who God used to help save His people. If you love to sing, make sure you come this week. We will be learning a few songs from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and performing for families at the end of the week. Egyptian-themed games and activities are included.
Week 3: July 28- August 1: Lights, Camera… ACTION
For all the future movie stars—this is for you. We’ll be taking the stories we learn this week—tales called parables—and creating scenes for a play. Campers will learn improv basics, the elements of a story, and be encouraged in writing and producing their own play. Bring sunglasses, because you’ll shine brighter than stars.
Week 4: August 4-8: All-Star Camp
Get your game face on, and don’t forget to stretch! This week will be packed with fun games, competition, and lots of cheering. Lessons will focus on underdogs in the Bible and how God uses normal people to do big things. This week will include a clinic by local high school cheerleaders, flag football, and baseball.
Week 5: August 11-15: Rock out!
It’s time to make some noise! Pots, pans, trashcans, and buckets will be transformed into instruments to make loud praise to God! Our Bible lessons for the week will be some of the noisiest. A short performance will conclude the week. Come ROCK OUT with us!
Week 6: August 18-22: Water World
Summer is heating up and it’s time to cool down! This week includes tons of water games, activities, and stories that involve water. Campers will be given an introduction to photography class and be able to take some shots of all the fun we’re having. Get ready for some fun in the sun!
Camp runs from 9 AM-3 PM with extended daycare available at an additional cost. Each week of camp costs $125 per child, and discounts are available for multiple children of the same family. For more information or to register, email Liz Hinz at email@example.com or visit their website.
