6th District athletes face off for annual Track and Field Meet

track and field meet 6th districtCouncilman Dee Andrews, along with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine, Weed & Seed Program, and the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach to host the 2nd Annual 6th District Track and Field meet, at the Track Stadium, 1600 Atlantic Ave, on Thursday, April 8, from 9 a.m.  to 2 p.m.

Join Councilman Andrews and 6th District youth as they compete in this annual track meet. Last years event attracted over 200 youth, ages ranging from 6 to 13 years old. The youth will compete in four divisional meets.

“It is important to engage our youth in events that encourage them to test their strength in a positive way. have always been a constructive outlet for me and I hope to carry on that tradition for our youth”, said Councilman Andrews.

The Track and Field meet will start with field events at 9 a.m. and the running events will start at 10 a.m.

The field events include 50m-100m-200m-300m-500m-4×100-4 x 400m, a long jump, high jump, and throw. The Divisions are divided in 4 age groups Division 1 (6-7 years old), Division 2 (8-9 years old) Division 3 (10 –11 years old) Division 4 (12-13 years old).

The competing teams are John C. Wallace Petroleum, King Park, Butler WRAP, McBride Park, Veterans Park, Drake Park, Orizaba Park, Jackie Robinson WRAP, Eastman Boys & Girls Club, Westside Boys & Girls Club, and MacArthur Park.
