For 25 years, The AIDS Food Store has provided food for the men, woman and children in our community with HIV/AIDS.

Mr. York, a Long Beach resident and jazz musician has performed for such notables as President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope, Richard Gere, Patti Labelle, Michael Feinstein and Shirley Jones. He is staff accompanist/vocal coach at Los Angeles Harbor College and has performed for screenings for Disney Studios, The Producers, Outfest and the Ovation Awards. He also studies classical organ with David York in Long Beach and improvisation with Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin in Paris, France.

“The community supported and enjoyed A Day in Paradise 1 and 2, having raised over $10,000 between the two events. We wanted to do something special this year to say thank you, and asked Mr. York and his trio to perform,” JaySun Howell, Community Relations Chair for The AIDS Food Store said. “We are proud to support The AIDS Food Store by donating 20% of food purchased at Paradise throughout the day, beginning with the Pancake Breakfast Saturday morning. The dining room was sold out from 5-11:00 p.m. for ADIP 1 & 2, so dinner reservations are a must,” said Eric Davis, Manager of Paradise Restaurant and Piano Bar.

The all day benefit for The AIDS Food Store will begin with the popular Pancake Breakfast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During dinner from 5-11:00 p.m., raffle prizes will be awarded, including a 46 inch flat screen television, an Apple iPad, a beach cruiser bicycle and other prizes donated by local businesses.

This years’ Guest Hostess is Mrs. Olson, the 39th elected Empress of The International Imperial Court of Long Beach. In addition to adding her elegance and grace to the event, Mrs. Olson will preside over a dinner time auction of a scenic one hour private plane ride for 4 over the L.A. basin donated by Aunt Phyllis of BabbleOnPodcast.com. The flight will include such landmarks as The Queen Mary, Santa Monica, Malibu, the Hollywood Sign, Dodger Stadium, the Rose Bowl and Disneyland.

The AIDS Food Store Long Beach was founded in 1985 by members of Christ Chapel of Long Beach to address the issue of hunger in our HIV/AIDS community. Food is distributed to clients on the second and fourth Saturday of the month from its distribution center at 10th and Termino. Volunteers are welcome.
