Alamitos Bay to Host Beach Water Polo Cup, Stand up Paddle Race

Two fast-paced events — the 3rd annual Beach Water Polo Cup and a three-mile stand up paddle race — will be churning up the waters of Alamitos Bay Sat. and Sun., Aug. 28 and 29.

Playing on four separate courses, an anticipated 60 teams will compete for honors in a variety of Beach Water Polo Cup team classes, including mens/womens open and masters and boys/girls 19-under, all 3-player teams plus goalie.

Youth classes, all 4-player teams plus goalie, include boys/girls 16-under, 14-under and 12-under.

The LBCSUP Grand Prix, featuring entrants standing on 11’-to-12’ boards and using long paddles, will race on a three-mile course around Naples Island beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Beach Water Polo Cup, a 2010 Long Beach Sea Festival event, is the world’s largest beach water polo event, and is presented by Shore Aquatics, MONSTERPOLO and the Irvine Water Polo Club. For further information, call (949) 689-0500 or log on to the Beach Water Polo Cup website.
