buy-art-studiosAlternative Skies, the summer art show at BuyArt Studios, will feature artwork by gallery owner Dawn Morishige as well a collection of landscapes by Jeni Bate and striking images on metal by Ken Marshall.

Alternative Skies opens with a reception on July 18 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The show will remain on display through August 8.

Jeni Bate is an artist from the Salton Sea who is represented by the Crossroads Galley in Tehachapi. She shows extensively across the country. She is inspired by the skies and scenes of the Imperial Valley, but travel has allowed her to work from landscapes all around California. In the words of the artist, “I paint the skies with peace and passion because that’s the way they paint me. Sky always has the same ingredients, air, light and water, yet each day the recipe is different.”

Ken Marshall is a Long Beach artist who has been showing throughout Southern California. His most recent solo show was at the James Gray Gallery in Santa Monica, where he displayed a collection of works on metal. Ken’s work centers on mythology. He has developed a unique process combining metal and oil paint to explore the effects of light and texture. These metal pieces glow when placed in direct sunlight. The effect is just stunning.

There will also be several new pieces by the owner, Dawn Morishige. On display will be several photographic room dividers as well as a collection of film etchings. She will be displaying her feature on HGTV documenting the film etching process. It’s a great opportunity to learn a new photographic technique!
