Ann Mitchell Displays Photographs in LBPH’s Visual Arts Exhibition Program

Long Beach Playhouse announces its first artist in the Visual Arts Exhibition Program. Local Artist, Ann Mitchell displays work from her recent Austin Val Verde, Impressions of a Montecito Masterpiece. This exhibition comprises photographs of an estate as it is restored to its early glory. Mitchell is the first in a series of artists that will display their artwork in the gallery at the Playhouse. Her work will be shown during the run of Sabrina Fair, currently on the Mainstage Theatre until May 2nd, 2009.
Ann Mitchell was born in New York City and raised in California. She earned a BFA in Photography (Art Center College of Design) and in 1997 she completed her MFA (Claremont Graduate University). She has worked in advertising and editorial photography, winning awards along the way. Eventually, she decided to pursue her own imagery. Mitchell concentrates on urban landscapes and structures. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor of Art and is a coordinator for the Photography Program at Long Beach City College.
Mitchell’s photographs have been included in a large number of solo and group exhibitions in the western United States. She has also served as curator for several exhibitions and is active as an organizer of photo-related events. Her work has been reproduced in a number of publications, including LensWork, View Camera, Los Angeles, Better Homes and Gardens, Victoria and Home Magazines. In Fall 2007 Balcony Press released Austin Val Verde, a monograph of the Val Verde project.
The Long Beach Playhouse is located at 5021 E. Anaheim Street in Long Beach. All performances run for six weeks. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8:00 p.m. with Sunday matinees start at 2:00 p.m. beginning the second week of production.
