Join Long Beach Heritage for the 2014 Loft Walk of the Walker Building and Big Red Bus Tour of Art Deco Downtown Long Beach to be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014. The evening begins with light hosted appetizers, moves on to an Art Deco Tour of Downtown Long Beach on the Big Red Bus with noted Art Deco historian John Thomas, followed by access to the lofts in the Walker building, and ends with hosted wine and appetizers at the Federal Bar’s Art Deco ex-speakeasy.

The Walker Building, built in 1929, was designed by Meyer and Holler who also designed Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. It was built as a department store and remained in business for decades. The only other tenant was Save On Drug Store. In the early 80’s the building became vacant and remained so for two decades until it became an adaptive use project and was developed into luxury loft condominiums by the architectural firm Interstices and architect, Jonathan Glasgow.
