Community Hospital Long Beach (CHLB) Employees Foundation Committee turned back the clock to 1929 on Saturday August 20, for its Murder Mystery Dinner “Murder, Mayhem & Moonshine.” Held at the famous Rexington Hotel in downtown Chicago (in reality The Grand in Long Beach), 107 people had lots of fun sleuthing, identifying, enjoying a delicious dinner and raising $10,000 for CHLB.

The stars of “Murder. Mayhem & Moonshine” were caught up in Prohibition, murder and gang warfare; (and incidentally are all connected to CHLB in some way). Robert Scott was Inspector Schnozzer; Bill D’Alvia played Al Cologne; Myrna Wigod played Mrs. Cologne; Matthew Faulkner, in a full Scottish kilt, played Jack “Mad Dog” McBurn; Niki Vasilomanolakis was the grieving widow Sugar Meringue; Dr. Andrew Manos was the brother Bottles Meringue; Kellene Richetts-Nguyen played the landlady Mrs. Roody; Dr. Mike Vasilomanolakis wore his eye patch at times on opposite eyes as Mayor Blindeye and Linda Basile as Mamma Meringue was the owner of a bakery and mother of the murdered gangster.

Sponsors for the evening were: Production Sponsor: Supervisor Don Knabe. Wine sponsors: Ray & Diane Burton; John & Nancy Eilers; Jerry Hughes, MD & Nancy Gills-Hughes; Tom Kennelly; Paul & Lorie Merrill and Diane Owen. Media sponsor: The Signal Tribune. Dessert sponsors: Brian & Jane Anderson; Doug & Mary Eichenhofer; Robin Kendall and Dr. Andrew & Pam Manos. Centerpiece sponsors: Ron & Elsa Gildner. Advertising sponsors Bel Vista Healthcare Center and David Fernandez.

Those CHLB Foundation friends who joined us for a fun-filled evening were: CHLB Foundation Executive Director Matthew Faulkner with Clare; Pam Dingwell, producer/director; Jean Bixby Smith; Barbara Bixby Blackwell; Ross Riddle; Frances Harding; Marlene and Summer Temple; Connie Sziebl; Patty Williams; Sandy VandenBerg; Dr. Richard Wigod with Myrna; Bev and Cecil Cook; Dr. William and Shirley Wild; Diane DeWalsche and Diane Owen.

The CHLB Employees Foundation Committee is in the 9th year of the fabulous and hysterical Murder Mystery Dinners. Watch for more fun and raucous laughter next year.
