leadership-long-beachLeadership Long Beach is now accepting applications for the Class of 2010.

With a mission to “develop and connect principled leaders to strengthen the community,” Leadership Long Beach is the city’s leading leadership development program. Nearly 700 people have graduated from its two adult programs – Leadership Long Beach and Executive Quick Start – and its Youth Leadership Long Beach program.

The 10-month program holds class the first Monday of each month, beginning in October 2009 through June 2010. A mandatory orientation will be held August 24, and a mandatory class retreat will be held September 11-13 in the Big Bear area.

The program tuition is $3,000 and is payable by July 31, 2009. The amount represents only a portion of the cost to run the program. Applicants are responsible for the tuition no matter if they or their employer is paying. Candidates also can apply for a partial scholarship from Leadership Long Beach.

New applicants will join LLB’s 700 graduates, many of whom serve on city commissions and various non-profit boards, doing volunteer work and making Long Beach a better place for its residents.

“If you have leadership skills and want to enhance them, learn more about Long Beach and work to improve our community, the Leadership Long Beach may be for you,” said LLB President Denny Moore. “Class members form strong bonds with each other and experience a challenging educational and motivational program that is also fun and enlightening.”

Each class completes projects that benefit Long Beach such has the Miracle on 4th Street Park, Youth Diversity Summit, Bricks by the Sea and the lights on the Queensway Bridge.

The program has several goals, including bringing together people of diverse backgrounds with demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment for the future of Long Beach; providing an educational experience that encompasses all aspects of the city; and creating a strong network of alumni who can serve as resources for the community.

The application deadline is Monday, June 19. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee. Click Here for application or paper copies are available at the office, 3939 Atlantic Ave, Suite 201, or by calling Peter Bostic or Michelle Friesen at (562) 997-9194.
