The Seventh Annual Good Neighbor Festival and Picnic on Saturday, September 28 will start off with a splash with the appearance of the Aquarium on Wheels provided by the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. The event will feature games, 45 booths for various community non-profit organizations and city departments, pie and watermelon eating contests, bounce house, face painting, free hot-dogs, shaved ice, and more.
“The Good Neighbor Festival is a great way to celebrate your neighbors and non-profit organizations whose actions and involvement in the community makes the Fifth District such a wonderful place to live,” says Schipske who started the event seven years ago. “We want to encourage more residents to become involved in their community, and this year’s awardees are all great examples of what makes our community super.”
The September 28th Festival will begin at 11 am until 4 pm at Good Neighbor Park, 2800 N. Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, 90815. The event is fun for the whole family and includes prizes, and food and water will be provided by the Long Beach Police Association, Long Beach Firefighters Association, Long Beach Lifeguards Association, and shaved ice will be provided by the Port of Long Beach.
Popular bands Flyer and the Elm Street Band will also perform throughout the day.
Gerrie Schipske is inviting residents to nominate individuals and/or organizations for the annual Good Neighbor Awards. The nomination process honors youth, adults and organizations who have been “good neighbors” in the 5th Council District.
