On Saturday, September 21, 2013, at approximately 6:00p.m., Long Beach Police officers received a call from a citizen reporting an unwelcome person at a residence in the 200 block of Park Avenue. The caller stated there was a subject at the location that had a restraining order issued against him and he might be armed.
When the first officer arrived at the location he was contacted by a citizen who said the suspect was coming down a driveway armed with a handgun. The suspect pointed the handgun at the officer. When the suspect failed to comply with the officers commands an officer involved shooting occurred. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
The suspect has been identified as Greg Treadway a 49-year-old resident of Long Beach. He was struck by the gunfire and transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition.
The investigation revealed the suspect came to the location in violation of the restraining order and broke into a garage where it is believed he retrieved the firearm. The suspect then walked to the front of the residence where the protected person, an ex-girlfried on the restraining order, was located when the officer involved shooting occurred.
Suspect Treadway has been booked on attempt murder, assault against a police officer with a firearm, burglary, and violation of a restraining order.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will be conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or death.
