ArtExchange Opens Holiday Salon at East Village Artwalk

ArtExchange (ArtX) highlights the opening of its 3rd Annual Holiday Salon, along with special exhibitions from ArtX studio artists Kenny McBride and Leah C. Dixon at this Saturday’s East Village Art Walk from 6:00 PM to 9:00PM, November 8.

Latenight, the art experience continues with live music and more art during ArtXWalk After Dark from 9:00PM to 12:00AM.

The Third Annual Holiday Salon showcases more than 20 artists at the ArtX ‘Corner Gallery’ with a floor to ceiling exhibit in the spirit of the Salon d’Apollon. This salon (est 1648) shifted art viewing from museum walls of dead artists to gallery walls of living artists. 

Nicolassa Galvez, ArtX’s CEO and curator of this exhibit states, “Our annual salon has grown from a few dozen pieces in its first year to over 200 pieces this year. This year’s collection of work is stunning. By showcasing several artists in a diverse range of media, we are creating opportunities for patrons to incorporate contemporary art from regional artist into the holiday season.”

THEN AND NOW by Kenny McBride (ArtX Studio Artist) – viewable at McArts Studios, 352 East Third Street – showcases a visual history of the progression of studio artist Kenny McBride’s twenty-­nine years on earth, featuring a collection and variety of work spanning back into the distance of his early life, from wince only one thing can be deduced for certain; that he sure does love to create!

SCIENCE FICTION DOUBLE FEATURE curated by Leah C. Dixon – viewable at illuminoidal arts, 340 East Third Street – is warping into another dimension with equal parts art show and costume party. This group art show is themed around all forms of science fiction.

Additional happenings at ArtExchange during the Artwalk include; free family art activities; two new large works RESURRECT IT TILL IT DIES by Christine Fuchs; a body of works inspired by the city that never sleeps N.Y. SEE Part 2 by Noel Madrid and open studio from Rebecca Giesking at Room + Boarder; paintings on the subject of color as feeling and location AURORA GRAFIALIS by Jorge Mujica; works in progress from John Thatcher Montgomery; open studio from Steven Frost; a collection of paintings POWER OF PAINT from Renee Tanner; and, open studio from Margie Darrow.
