PICTURE THIS Gallery & Custom Framing in collaboration with Bo’s Cigar Lounge present The 3rd Annual “CATADORES” Cigar Art Exhibit 2015, a Long Beach Fire Department Fundraiser.

Catadores (kata’ðoɾes) – Specialists possessing one of the greatest jobs on earth; Catadores are the skilled tasters who quality check cigars daily.

While they do not handle any tobacco leaves, cigar catadores are essential in the manufacturing of fine cigars. The catador is said to be found sitting in front of all torcedores (cigar rollers) reading aloud the daily newspaper and various books so as the monotonous work does not bore the torcedores. Some Cuban cigar brands, like Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta, are named after the famous books of Alexandre Dumas and William Shakespeare, which were the favorite stories of the cigar rollers at that time.

We are looking for art pieces with cigar themes or art made from cigar boxes to display the month of August.

All mediums welcome.

*CIGAR BOX ART: We are also seeking artists who are interested in participating in cigar box art. We will be giving one box per artist and asking them to do their own artistic creation with it. Boxes must be returned for sale in the gallery during the exhibit. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Long Beach Fire Department, Sparks of Love. Cigar boxes compliments of Bo’s Cigar Lounge.
