Arts Council Seeks Candidates for Board of Directors

Arts Council for Long Beach Receives Grant to Commission New WorkThe Public Corporation for the Arts, dba, Arts Council for Long Beach is seeking candidates to serve on the Board of Directors. “The Arts Council belongs to the residents of Long Beach. As such, we invite any individual in the community who is interested in getting more involved in arts and culture to complete and submit an application,” says John Glaza, Interim Executive Director of the Arts Council.

The Arts Council for Long Beach was established in 1976 by the City of Long Beach to respond to the needs of the growing local arts community and to develop cultural resources. As the city’s arts agency, we function as a private 501(c)(3) organization. The Arts Council receives annual city contracts, as well as support from individuals, corporations and foundations.

The purpose of the Arts Council for Long Beach is to organize, encourage and enhance the cultural environment in the City of Long Beach. By supporting the artists in our community, together we create cultural opportunities and experiences for the people who live, work and play here.

The Arts Council for Long Beach serves as a coordinating and educational organization to foster, promote, encourage and increase the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts in the City of Long Beach. ACLB has five programs to support its mission – Neighborhood and Educational Programs, Professional Development, Grants, Marketing Services for Artists and Cultural Organizations, and Public Art.

If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved in arts and culture in Long Beach, now may be the time. Interested individuals who live and/or work in Long Beach are invited to review the board agreement and complete an application. Deadline for submission is Monday, September 17, 2012.
