Arts Council seeks Resident Artist for Eye on Design

The Arts Council for Long Beach is now accepting applications for a resident artist position with the Eye on Design program.
Eye on Design is a public-art education program for third-graders that encourages civic involvement, critical thinking and creative problem solving through a customized residency program. Third-grade students are guided through the same process a public artist follows to develop a public art concept and seek an art commission.
Deadline for Applications is: January 5, 2010.
Resident Artist Job Description
Job Title: Artist-in-Residence
Location: Long Beach, CA
Dates of Position: Jan. 26 through April 2, 2010
Expected hours: approximately 8-10 hours/week
Summary of Position:
The Resident Artist will work under the guidance of the Director of Arts Learning and the Lead Resident Artist to assist third-grade students in the development of their public art proposals. Resident Artist must be available to participate in relevant site meetings, professional development and or/ trainings for teachers and program partners, and attend the final student presentation and student exhibition reception.

The Arts Council provides access to families, children, and the community to a broad spectrum of creative expressions and cultural experiences by building strategic partnerships and programs that weave arts and culture into the fabric of our community.
Qualifications: The resident artist should have demonstrated professional experience as an arts educator. Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in Fine Arts, Architecture, Arts Education or related field is preferred and practical knowledge of the public art discipline is required. Interested candidates must also be willing to undergo a thorough background and reference check.
