As Chair of the Emergency Management Committee, Lowenthal will examine emergency communication strategy during public hearing in Lakewood August 12. Sheriff Lee Baca to participate. The Legislature’s point-person on emergency management, Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal, will ask state and local officials to explain how they plan to keep residents informed in a disaster, during a public hearing at Lakewood City Hall.

Thank you again for your support during the difficult budget process. We got it done, our check book balances, but there’s not much to celebrate. There is, however, a lot of other work to do. For example, I’ve recently been given charge of the Joint Emergency Management Committee, which is the Legislature’s eyes and ears on the state’s readiness.

Assembly Approves Bill Giving Hate-Crimes Protection to Homeless Victims

 

Legislators on Tuesday approved Assembly Bill 312, by Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, during a morning hearing in the state Capitol. The bill gives homeless people the right to invoke hate-crimes protection when suing an assailant in civil court.
