b1-bomber-lgbBoeing has advised the Long Beach Airport that the U.S. Air Force B-1 Bomber is expected to depart on Monday, May 18 in the afternoon.  The aircraft arrived in July 2008 for maintenance.

Residents still jumpy after last night’s earthquake should note that the B-1 Bomber will likely use its afterburners during take off. This will make it louder than the typical airplane departure.

It’s likely that the aircraft will takeoff and fly over Long Beach towards the northwest. The exact time of takeoff is unknown.

The B-1 is a supersonic-capable, swept-wing jet bomber. The U.S. Airforce still has 67 B-1s in service.
