BARK Reading DogsThe Body Shop in Belmont Shore is teaming up with BARK to help collect books for children who read to the B.A.R.K. dogs.

Anytime during August, drop off new or gently used picture books (dog-related are best), dog beanie babies, and/or dog stickers and receive a “Night of Beauty’ on Friday, August 24, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm with free makeovers, skin care consultations, and a small gift.

The Body Shop is located at 5013 E. 2nd Street, Long Beach, CA 90803.

Founded in 2007, B.A.R.K. (Beach Animals Reading with Kids) is a volunteer program that encourages children to increase their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to friendly and attentive, certified therapy dogs. Students often find it intimidating to read in front of classmates; with the help of B.A.R.K., children increase their reading skills, self-confidence, and class participation.
