Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 East Olympic Plaza, re-opened to the public today, November 14, at 5:30 am after being closed for several weeks for maintenance and repairs.

“The Belmont Plaza Pool is going to reopen with a splash, and I invite the community to attend our Open House on Monday and take advantage of the improvements,” said 3rd District Councilmember Gary DeLong.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine took advantage of the pool’s annual September maintenance closure to replace pipes, pour new concrete around the pipes and replace or clean the pool tiles. The contractor worked seven days per week, 12 hours a day, to have all repairs completed by November 14. The project was funded by funds dedicated to the Belmont Plaza Pool.

To celebrate the re-opening, Parks, Recreation and Marine will hold an Open House with extended hours today, November 14. The pool will be open from 5:30 am – 2 pm and from 4 -7 pm, with water exercise at 6:30 am, 8 am and 6 pm. Regular pool hours are available at www.lbparks.org.

In addition, the Belmont Plaza Outdoor Pool will remain open until November 20 with a water temperature of 80 degrees with the following schedule:

Lap Swim
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 7 am – 2 pm
Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 am – 2 pm
Saturday and Sunday, 8 am – 12 noon

Recreation Swim
Saturday and Sunday, 12 noon – 3 pm

Belmont Plaza Pool opened in August 1968, prior to hosting the Olympic Trials that year. Men’s and Women’s Diving, Men’s Swimming and Men’s Water Polo were held at the pool which featured an underwater television and sound system. The T-shaped, eight lane, million-gallon, all tile pool provided extremely smooth water due to extra wide and extra deep gutters and tiny water inlets at the bottom of the pool. The pool facility offers a weight room, locker room and showers, and the pool continues to be a popular choice for both public and competitive use.

Swim lesson registration for classes scheduled to begin in January is going on now. Visit www.lbparks.org to register online using the RecConnect program. Registration will also be taken at the pool during open hours beginning November 14. For more information about Belmont Plaza Pool, call Lori Jarmacz, Aquatic Supervisor, at 562.570.1809.
