Blood Mobile returns to FreeSpirit Yoga on Tuesday
2009-11-02 · By Barbara Holbrook
According the Red Cross, lifesaving blood is needed by someone in the community every 10 seconds. What if giving blood was something everyone did on a regular basis, like eating at a favorite restaurant. What kind of difference would this make?
Andrea Testa, owner of FreeSpirit Yoga, doesn’t have to imagine. Her Bixby Knolls yoga studio regularly sponsors a community blood drive. For years, she has invited Long Beach to stop by and “give of themselves” with a visit from the Red Cross Blood Mobile. The next blood drive will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Throughout the year, less than three percent of eligible Southern California donors actually donate blood. Blood is needed for a variety of reasons including helping victims of car accidents, cancer patients, and people with blood disorders that require blood transfusion in order to survive.
You can help save lives by becoming a volunteer blood donor. A single donation — one pint of blood — can save up to three lives.
As an added bonus FreeSpirit Yoga is having a drawing to give away a Yoga Quartley Pass — that’s 90 days of unlimited yoga! Donors will be entered when they make their appointment for the Blood Mobile.
The Blood Mobile will be in the FreeSpirit Yoga parking lot on Tuesday, November 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Call (562) 989-9959 to make an appointment.
The yoga studio is located at 3910 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach. The parking lot is in the back.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, in good health and not at risk for HIV/AIDS. Your visit usually takes anywhere from a half hour to 45 minutes to complete, although the actual donation process takes about 15 minutes. First time and repeat donors are welcome.
The Red Cross serves more than 150 hospitals in Southern California, including four in Long Beach. For more information or to schedule a blood drive at your business or community organization, call 1-800-448-3543 or visit www.redcross.org.
