Bomb squad evacuates Long Beach apartment building on Wisconsin Avenue

bomb squad wisconsin avenue apartmentThe Long Beach police called in the Los Angeles County bomb squad when officers discovered what appeared to be a homemade bomb at an apartment building near the Carroll Park neighborhood.

Officers arrived to the area about 7 p.m. on Monday to answer a domestic disturbance call in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue. While they were conducting an investigation, they found what appeared to be an explosive device.

Residents of the apartment building were evacuated to Burbank Elementary School, said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department.

The item was “rendered safe” by the bomb squad early Tuesday morning.

One man was arrested at the scene.
