The Association of Global Automakers presented Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) with its first-ever “California Legislator of the Year Award” at its annual Sacramento Lobby Day reception on May 21, 2013.

“Assemblywoman Lowenthal’s support of the auto industry efforts to make vehicles more environmentally friendly and to advance passenger safety has been invaluable over the years,” said Gordon Fry, Global Automakers director of state relations.

Lowenthal represents the 70th district in California, which includes the cities of Avalon, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Signal Hill and San Pedro.  She is among the most experienced and seasoned members of the California Legislature and currently chairs the Assembly Transportation Committee.

“From our ports to communities across California, automakers are critical to our economy,” said Lowenthal.  “I’m honored and look forward to continuing to work with them on innovation and sustainability issues.”

Each year, Global Automakers and its member companies gather in Sacramento to meet with lawmakers, to highlight the auto industry’s impact in the state, and showcase the latest in advanced technology vehicles. The Association’s “California Legislator of the Year Award” recognizes one lawmaker from the state for his or her dedication to the auto industry and the citizens of California.

The Association of Global Automakers represents international motor vehicle manufacturers, original equipment suppliers, and other automotive-related trade associations.  They work with industry leaders, legislators and regulator to foster an open and competitive automotive marketplace that encourages investment, job growth, and development of vehicles. For more information, visit
