The new 38-foot custom St. Mary Medical Center Breathe Easy Mobile Care Clinic, funded by the Port of Long Beach, will hit the road on Thursday, May 17, with its first official stop at the American Gold Star Manor, a Westside senior resident community, from. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Then on May 19, the Mobile Clinic will visit the Long Beach Asthma Resource Fair at Admiral Kidd Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The vehicle is part of the Breathe Easy Mobile Outreach Program launched by St. Mary on March 1, 2012 as the result of an $834,000 Port of Long Beach grant. The Breathe Easy Clinic provides asthma outreach and respiratory diagnostic services to individuals of all ages in communities nearest the Port of Long Beach and its transportation corridors.

“St. Mary Medical Center is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with asthma and respiratory problems, starting with our local Long Beach community,” said Jyoti Datta, M.D., St. Mary Medical Center Chief of Staff and Pulmonary Disease/Chest Disease Specialist.

“Asthma is a significant public health burden that affects over 230 million people worldwide, including more than 25 million in the United States. St. Mary Medical Center is committed to treating and controlling asthma through ongoing outreach and education via our new Breathe Easy Mobile Care Clinic.”

Dr. Datta added that very soon St. Mary will have the capability of doing non-medicine treatment of difficult asthma in certain patients.
