California Open comes to life at Long Beach Arts Gallery

Long Beach Arts Gallery, oldest art group in the Long Beach area, will open their upcoming exhibition, California Open, 2009, for a 32 day display from May 23 through June 26. The new LBA Gallery location, 4332 Atlantic Ave. is next door to the Alsace Lorraine Bakery in Bixby Knolls.
About 200 entries, which came from all over the state for possible inclusion, were finally reduced in number, when the juror selected 31 works to represent California’s finest and most interesting works.
This year’s California Open judge, Sinead Finnerty-Pyne, is the Assistant Curator and Gallery Exhibitions Manager at the Armory Center for the Arts, based in Pasadena. Her curatorial projects include Under The Knife at the Armory Center, 2009, and Support for Representing LA: Pictorial Currents in Southern California Art at the Frye art Museum, Seattle.
Winners will be announced at the openng reception May 24, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at about 3 p.m. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 P.M. Ample weekend parking beside the building, in the rear of the building and on the street. Free to the public.
