7th Street Corridor tree planting

Volunteers are needed for a community tree planting along the Seventh Street corridor in Rose Park this weekend.

Second District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal, residents and volunteers from Rose Park Neighborhood Association, East Seventh Street Collaboration, Craftsman Village Historic District and North Alamitos Beach Association will also celebrate recent and ongoing improvements contributing to the revitalization of the historic corridor prior to planting trees. Approximately 88 trees are being funded by the Second District and planted throughout the week by Public Works and community volunteers.

Lowenthal will speak briefly about the revitalization of Seventh Street before planting a tree with Emily Stevens, president of Rose Park Neighborhood Association, and Gretchen Swanson, East Seventh Street Collaboration.

Additional improvements along the Seventh Street corridor include:

  • Pavers installed in crosswalks of intersections
  • Repaving of Seventh Street from Alamitos to Junipero Avenue
  • New sidewalks & curbs
  • 88 newly planted trees
  • Banners indicating neighborhood and historic status
  • Identification of locations for new bike racks (ongoing)
  • Big Saver Store construction to begin soon

The Community Tree Planting and Celebration of Seventh Street Improvements takes place this Saturday, April 27, 8:15 a.m. at the parking lot adjacent to 2240 East Seventh Street, Long Beach, 90804 (between Dawson and Junipero Avenue)
