Celebrate Day of the Dead Downtown

Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez invites Long Beach residents and the community to a free Day of the Dead event on Pine Avenue on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The celebration will take over two blocks of Pine Avenue between 6th and 8th Street from 2 pm to 10 pm.
“I wanted to bring an exciting cultural event to Long Beach that the whole family can enjoy for free,” said Councilwoman Gonzalez, who represents the 1st Council District. “…that showcases and educates our unique community.”
The event highlights include: an altar contest, face painting, and cultural presentations. Music performances by Conjunto Nueva Ola, Very Be Careful, Youth Mariachi, Folklorico dancers, and other local artists. There will be food vendors, and a beer garden hosted by Agaves Bar & Kress Market, with DJ entertainment throughout the night.
Attendees can park two hours for free at City Place located at 50 E. 6th Street Long Beach, CA 90802. Metro Blue Line stops closest to the event are the Pacific Ave stop at 498 Pacific Avenue or the 5th Street stop at 598 N Long Beach Blvd.
This is a free public event hosted by Councilwoman Gonzalez along with 1st District partners Hispanic Media, Centro CHA, Inc., & Arts Council for Long Beach. The event is made possible by generous sponsorships from the Port of Long Beach and Walmart.
