Charles Phoenix Big Retro Slide Show Comes To Art Theatre of Long Beach Oct. 6

National and local pride will swell when pop culture humorist and author Charles Phoenix brings his one-man comedy show to the iconic Art Theatre in Long Beach on Oct. 6, 2012.

The Ontario, California native loves to celebrate mid-century life and style and for more than a dozen years his massive collection of flea market-found vintage slides has inspired live Retro Slide Show performances, colorful coffee table books (including “Southern California in the 50s” and “Americana the Beautiful”) and has garnered Phoenix numerous appearances on The Conan Show, The Martha Stewart Show and on NPR.

Following the show, join Phoenix for a book signing and cocktail reception across the street at inretrospect [2122 E. 4th; 562-434-6600;], one of 4th Street’s coolest shops featuring vintagewear with contemporary flair—including furniture, housewares, fashion, art, music, books and other objects of coolness. Festive dress is encouraged (but not expected)!

Charles Phoenix Big Retro Slide Show roasts and toasts classic and kitschy American lifestyle, past and present. While commentating on flea-market-found mid-century family and travel slides, Charles unleashes his unbridled enthusiasm for the great American experience of space age suburbia, car culture, tourist traps, theme parks, food, fashion and more.

“Of course I will include amazing images of 1950s and 60s Long Beach in the show” says Charles who will also reveal his “best of” Long Beach guide!
