City Advises Residents to Beware of Utility Service Scam
2014-07-21 · By Editor
The City of Long Beach is warning residents and businesses not to fall victim to a scam involving a telephoned threat of utility service termination unless a payment is made immediately.
Utilities always contact customers in writing about payments or service changes.
In this scam, a person who claims to work for a utility telephones people and warns them that their account is seriously past due, and either power, gas or water service will be terminated unless the person immediately goes to a payment station to make a payment following specific instructions.
Do not fall victim to this scam.
