On Thursday July 1, 2010, The City of Long Beach announced a Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program, designed to encourage Long Beach businesses that have implemented sustainable practices to share their success stories and be recognized for going green.
Beginning in July 2010, local businesses can submit an online application highlighting their green efforts. Businesses who have implemented actions that improve the environment, increase efficiency and conservation and save money in six sustainability categories will be recognized each month. Selected businesses will have their business profile and best practices posted on the Office of Sustainability website, and will be recognized at a Sustainable City Commission meeting.
“The goal of the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program is to share our local success stories to create a more sustainable business community,” said Meredith Reynolds, Sustainability Coordinator. “These recognized green businesses strengthen their bottom lines through operating efficiencies, improve employee morale and productivity and hold a marketing edge over the competition, by being recognized as a leader in the community.”
To be considered for recognition under the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program, a Long Beach business must demonstrate green business practices in each of the following areas: Waste Reduction and Recycling; Alternative Transportation; Green Purchasing; Water Conservation and Pollution Prevention; Energy Efficiency and Conservation; and Staff Training and Public Awareness. The online application program for the Long Beach Green Business Recognition Program is available on the Office of Sustainability website.
Sustainability is a business strategy – one that has staying power because it can increase worker productivity, improve a company’s public image and save companies money; none of which go out of style. The Long Beach green business Recognition Program encourages businesses to take responsibility for positively contributing to a greener Long Beach.
