Students at the Long Beach Job Corps Center anxiously awaited the receipt of their certificates of completion for Advanced Leadership class. What they didn’t know was that their certificates would be presented by a special guest, Mr. Eddie Jones, President of the Los Angeles Civil Rights Association.

The advanced leadership ceremony included inspirational remarks by civil rights leader Mr. Eddie Jones, who gave a moving talk that young people can be anything they want to be. Mr. Jones encouraged the students to always do the right thing, keep furthering their education and that education gets you out of poverty. The occasion offered a perfect mix on the topics of history, leadership, and civil rights during this, Black History Month.

According to Center Standards and Incentives Manager, Mr. Carl Adams, who met Mr. Jones as a young boy growing up in Los Angeles, “when my family gave up on me, he did the opposite. He has been such an inspiration to me that I wanted our students to meet him.”

Ms. Mitra Vazeen, the Long Beach Job Corps Center Director, said she was “honored to have Mr. Jones address our students and that he inspired all of us with his inclusive and direct presentation.”
