Country music legend and multi-platinum selling star Clint Black will perform all his classic hits at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center on the campus of Cal State Long Beach on Jan. 24, 2013 at 8pm.
The prolific Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is hailed as one of Country music’s legendary stars and most successful musicians in the genre. In the span of two decades since his debut, Black has released more than 100 songs—which include 13 #1 hits on the Billboard Country charts—and sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.
Originally born in Long Branch, New Jersey, Clint Black was raised in Houston, Texas where his love for Country music began. He broke out in the Country music scene in the late 1980s, and released his debut album Killin’ Time in 1989—which eventually went on to go triple Platinum. Killin’ Time marked a shift in Country music to a return of the traditional sounds of the genre and boasted five #1 hits—leading Black to win Favorite Country New Artist at the American Music Awards the following year.
Black continued his Country dominance when he released Put Yourself in My Shoes in 1990, which also went triple Platinum. Since then, Black has had nearly two dozen #1 hit singles and receive numerous awards including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition, he stretched his talents to the silver screen and appeared in 1994’s Maverick alongside Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, Going Home in 2000 and Flicka 2 in 2010.
Most recently, Black released “She Won’t Let Go” in early 2012—a song about a heartbroken and confused five-year-old daughter of a service man leaving home for war—appearing in the movie Until They Are Home by filmmaker Steven C. Barber. He also appeared on the Donald Trump’s hit reality series Celebrity Apprentice, and currently serves as Honorary Chair for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation’s “Research to Reality: Funding Progress” campaign, which helps to accelerate treatments and research to find a cure for the developmental disorder.
