On Thursday, Sept. 11, Community Hospital Long Beach celebrated its 90th anniversary with the community, highlighting the newly renovated emergency department waiting room and the new emergency department design to help improve workflow, patient care and safety.

Gregory Bush, M.D., medical director, emergency department, Community Hospital Long Beach, spoke expressly during the 90th anniversary about his openness and commitment to working together to keep the Long Beach community well for the next century. He acknowledged that Community Hospital Long Beach’s main focus is to create an atmosphere where patients feel welcomed and are given the kind of support that dictates that their health comes first.

“As I have worked here in Long Beach for 14 years, these new changes have reinvigorated my love for medicine,” says Bush. “By revamping the triage and nursing stages in the emergency department, we are able to gain quicker access to the public and administer treatment that meets their individual needs in a setting that’s centralized and reassuring.”

Guests also were joined by Jerry Hughes, M.D., who served as the Community Hospital Long Beach emergency department medical director for nearly 20 years and Krikor Jansezian, PhD, administrator, Community Hospital Long Beach, as they spoke about the growth of the hospital through the years and how they expect to see relevant changes that will influence how their patients receive quality care.

The event’s guests were invited to partake in a guided tour of the newly-renovated emergency department waiting area. The emergency department is in its first week since the lobby was renovated. Guests also were presented with the opportunity to fill out celebratory notecards that allowed them to express gratitude and their sentiments toward the care they have received for nearly a century.

“Any way in which Community Hospital Long Beach can grow in order to better serve Long Beach, we will try to do it,” says Jansezian. “Many of the recent advances, including the renovated emergency department waiting area and the introduction of EPIC, our new electronic medical record system, serves to reduce wait times for our patients and will improve the standard of health care that we provide.”

As the celebration continued well into the evening, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and took part in a raffle drawing, with one lucky attendee winning a Kindle Fire®.

Community Hospital Long Beach will continue to celebrate its 90th anniversary on Sept. 18 and 25, giving the community a chance to learn more about its surgical specialites and the MemorialCare Center for Mental Health & Wellness.
