Community Resource Fair helps residents prepare for disaster

The St. Mary Medical Center Disaster Resource Center (DRC) and the Long Beach Neighborhood Services Bureau will present the 11th Annual Leadership Conference, Are You Prepared for a Disaster? on Monday, September 21 on the St. Mary campus in the Parr Health Enhancement Center at 1055 Linden Avenue.
The free Community Resource Fair will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.; workshops and presentations by Kathy Crow, RN, St. Mary’s DRC Coordinator and the Long Beach Fire Department will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Crow will discuss disaster management, home disaster kits, family emergency plans and caring for pets during a disaster. The Fire Department will give advice on fire and flood hazards, how to shut off gas in an emergency and how to prepare before a disaster.
Vendors at the Resource Fair include the Greater Long Beach American Red Cross, the Long Beach Senior Center, the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Emergency Management Program, the Long Beach Animal Care Service and the Children’s Clinic, among others. Light refreshments will be served and an opportunity drawing will be held. Parking is $1. Spanish and Khmer translation is available.
Residents are encouraged to bring canned food to donate to Food Finders to assist our Long Beach neighbors during the current economic crisis.
