Visitors returning to the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center will not only find a fresh coat of paint on the walls but a modernized transformation of the venues. The Center has undergone a swift and successful $8 million renovation in a four month window, timed around several groups that held events at the Center. Vibrant LED (Light Emitting Diode) fixtures were also installed in conjunction with the multi-colored illumination of downtown Long Beach.

The Long Beach waterfront and ocean view inspired the interior design by Heery International, from the sandy hues of the wave-patterned carpets in the Terrace Theater to the rolling, current-like light panels hanging in the Long Beach Arena lobby. Sconces and intimate seating areas provide a warm ambiance to what were previously dim corridors and enliven underused spaces outside of the theaters.

The renovation began in October 2008 and focused on restoring the Long Beach Arena and Terrace Theatre restrooms. In an eco-friendly effort to conserve water and encourage efficient use of resources, 100 electric faucets and nearly 180 waterless urinals provided by the city and toilets with 1.5 flush valves were installed during the renovation.

Approximately 840 gallons of paint were used to refresh the Center’s appearance and transform the ceiling of the iconic Arena from white to ink black.

Multi-colored LED lighting now decorates the Center lobby’s glass atrium and glass palm trees as well as the Terrace Theater fountain. Each LED light fixture is navigated by a control system that produces a colorful spectrum of more than 16 million different colors. The lights, placed in several notable downtown locations, aim to bring buildings to life while encouraging pedestrian traffic to downtown.

The improvements give the Center immense and distinct personality. The rejuvenated venues and recent installation of multi-colored LED displays invite everyone, residents and visitors alike, to experience downtown Long Beach and its offerings.
