Councilman Andrews and Others to Host Health In the Park

Councilman Dee Andrews joins the Cambodian Health Professionals Association of America (CHPAA), in partnership with the American University of Health Sciences (AUHS), to host the Health In the Park (HIP) event to be held Saturday, November 7, from 10am to 2pm at MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim Street, Long Beach, CA 90813. The event is free and open to community members of all ages.
The goal of HIP is to promote and advance the health and wellness of our community in alignment with the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), thus making Long Beach a healthier and safer place to live.
“I am honored to host this event again to support our residents in hope of educating themselves on health, fitness, and wellness”, said Councilman Dee Andrews.
The event will offer free health screenings and informational sessions. The screenings include HIV and Hepatitis C. The informational sessions include health education, prevention awareness, wellness promotion, and the latest information about treatments. There will also be access to health care with enrollment in health insurance and other programs, as well as referrals to community resources including yoga and meditation. Most importantly, attendees will have an opportunity for an in-person health chats with doctors and other health professionals. There will also be entertainment for the children.
The leadership provided by CHPAA (in conjunction with AUHS) is also significant, as the organization is comprised of physicians and other health professionals of Cambodian heritage which will assist in servicing Cambodian participates. The members of CHPAA share the traumatic history and possess the linguistic and cultural competency necessary to effectively connect with the community in need.
