Councilman Dee Andrews and Cambodia Town to Host 2nd Annual Cambodian Arts & Culture Exhibition

2010Exhibition_FlyerThe Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews and Cambodian Town to host the 2nd Annual Cambodian Arts and Culture Exhibition, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at MacArthur Park.

This is the second year that the open-air festival will have hands-on demonstrations of a variety of art forms from Cambodia’s rich and ancient culture. Local Cambodian artisans and culture bearers will share their expertise through interactive demonstrations. “This event is a jewel in our city. It reaches beyond the barriers to bring residents together to celebrate and educate with the beauty of art”, said Councilman Dee Andrews.

Among the arts and cultural practices on display will be Cambodian court dance and costuming, drawing, shadow puppets, music and musical instruments, textiles, dressmaking, weddings, cooking, and games. Additionally, Jeffrey Weaver, of the J. Paul Getty Museum and curator of the forthcoming exhibition – “Gods of Angkor: Bronzes from the National Museum of Cambodia,” will give a talk about the exhibition at 11:30 a.m. in the community room of the Mark Twain Library across the street from MacArthur Park. This exciting exhibition will open at the Getty Center in Los Angeles on February 22, 2011 and continue through August 14, 2011.

The 2nd Annual Cambodian Arts and Culture Exhibition is Saturday November 20, 2010 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at MacArthur Park 1321 E. Anaheim St., Long Beach, 90813.
