Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews is pleased to introduce the 6th District Literacy Program. The kick off of the program was at Abraham Lincoln Elementary, located at 1175 E 11th Street, Long Beach, CA.
Over a hundred elementary students from the Abraham Lincoln Elementary; WRAP Program, gathered this week as 6th District Councilman Andrews delivered one of their favorite things, books. “The best gift for our children is the gift of literacy. To read is to explore and to reach beyond any boundaries”, said Councilman Dee Andrews. “Sometimes we take for granted the smallest things, like owning a book, when we have children in our City whose families can’t even afford one. It brings me great pleasure to be able to reach these children and to give them something that can expand their minds in a positive way”, continued Councilman Andrews.
The 6th District Literacy Program was created with local Long Beach nonprofit New Life Beginnings, who has collected books throughout the year for the program. The Jordan High School WRAP Omega Brothers joined Councilman Andrews to deliver the books and provided inspirational quotes to the children. The program is free and each child receives a book of their choice.
