Councilmember Garcia to Cut Ribbon at Kress Market Grand Opening

City Councilmember Robert Garcia will preside over the Grand Opening Ceremony for the new Kress Market at Fifth and Pine, Thursday, August 12. The Kress Market, owned by Javier Ortiz, is the newest of many businesses opening on North Pine in what many see as a renaissance for downtown.

The public, local media, and government dignitaries are invited to attend the ceremony, which will include samples of Kress’ culinary offerings.

“I think I speak for the entire downtown community when I say I am very excited about the Kress Market opening,” said Garcia. “Not only will Kress bring quality, healthful food to our community, it’s also part of a revitalization happening downtown that we can all be proud of.”

The Kress building contains occupied residences on its upper floors, and the Kress Market at street level. Kress Market will sell organic produce and groceries, as well as carrying a selection of wines, and offering prepared food at a gourmet deli counter. There is outdoor and indoor seating.

Councilmember Garcia has been spearheading efforts by the City and area residents and business-owners to revitalize the Pine Avenue district with façade grants, support for new businesses, increased public safety measures, public art, and numerous improvements to the streetscape.

“Kress is a terrific addition to our downtown community,” said Garcia. “This is a very important development, and I hope everyone will come to the grand opening and continue to support Kress by visiting for a meal or some shopping,” said Councilmember Garcia. “Kress is a terrific addition to our community and I extend them my warmest welcome.”
