Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske will host a special Flag Day ceremony at noon on June 14, at the El Dorado Community Center to replace the old United States Flag with a new one flown over the U.S. Capitol building, a gift from Congressman Alan Lowenthal.

“I contacted newly elected Congressman Alan Lowenthal and asked him if he could obtain a flag flown over the Capitol building because we wanted one to fly over the El Dorado Community Center,” explained Schipske, “We are lucky enough to have received two, so one will be raised at the Rosie the Riveter Park too. At the same time, we are replacing the U.S. flags that we had installed along Clark between Spring and Carson with brand new ones to commemorate Flag Day.”

The Flag Day Ceremony at El Dorado Community Center will feature a performance by special guests High Tide Quartet, flag raising by the United States Army National Guard and Boy Scout Troop 205. Following the ceremony, guests will receive souvenir flags and bookmarks, and enjoy refreshments provided by CareMore, followed by a special showing of the movie classic Yankee Doodle Dandy in the Bridge Room from 1:30-3:30 pm.
