Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske

The Teamsters Joint Council 42, representing over 200,000 workers, announced today that it was throwing its support behind Gerrie Schipske for Mayor.

“Gerrie Schipske has a long and illustrious history of standing up for working men and women in Long Beach, and she has repeatedly demonstrated that she is a leader who workers can trust,” said Randy Cammack, President of Joint Council 42. “200,000 working people are proud to back Gerrie Schipske, because of her integrity, her decency, and her honesty.”

“Goods movement is one of the biggest components of the Long Beach economy, and consequently the Teamsters play a critical role in our city’s commerce,” said Schipske. “I’m elated to receive their support, as it is emblematic of both my support of working people and the momentum this campaign is generating.”

In recent weeks, Gerrie Schipske has received major endorsements from California’s consumer watchdog, State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, the California Nurses Association and EMILY’s List.  A recent poll released by Mayor Bob Foster shows Schipske as the clear front-runner with 20 percent of the vote, 26 percent remain undecided and other declared candidates are in the low single digits.
