On Wednesday, the California School Employees Association (CSEA) announced their endorsement of Dr. Juan Benitez for the 3rd District School Board seat.
“The CSEA is proud to endorse Juan Benitez because we know he will champion our issues on the Long Beach School Board,” said Chapter President Valeeta Pharr. “He will protect the people and values we represent. As a college professor and father, he knows that those who help educate our children deserve a strong advocate, and that’s what he will be.”
“I am honored by the CSEA’s endorsement,” Benitez remarked. “I’m running because I want to improve our school district from the inside-out by fixing the budget deficit, increasing student achievement, and creating a culture of parent engagement. I look forward to partnering with the CSEA and its members to move our district forward.”
The CSEA joins the Teachers Association of Long Beach (TALB), Vice Mayor Robert Garcia, and Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal – all of whom have endorsed Dr. Benitez in recent weeks.
Dr. Juan M. Benitez is running for the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) Board of Education in District 3. He is the Executive Director for the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) and is an Associate Professor of History at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). Dr. Benitez received his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate Degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the son of immigrant parents from Mexico and is the first in his family to attend and graduate from college. He is also the proud and dedicated father of a 23-month old daughter who will be starting school in a few years.
